The definition of Living Your Dreams will be different for every person you ask but I think one thing we all have in common is we all strive to become better and to improve our lives. It is important to stop sometimes… and reflect… see where you are right now. What are your strengths… what are your weaknesses… and finally what gives your life a sense of fulfilment a sense of joy. What is that you would love to do 7 days a week that would bring a smile to your face?
I often hear from people, “you’re so lucky! You’re doing something in life you love and on top of that, you’re getting paid to do it” Well …. even though I do what I’m truly passionate about, it was not like this always and definitely, it has nothing to do with luck but hard work, persistence and trusting your own gut. I came from a completely different background and it took me 22 years to come to the realisation that “I have talent for graphic design and photography” but as I recall I always found interest in photography but graphic design was completely not something I envisioned I would be capable of doing. Not until I met one beautiful soul that played a huge part in my life and saw something in me that I couldn’t see in myself. It is important to pay close attention to people that God place in your life because we are all part of the much bigger picture. We cannot see it yet but eventually, it will all fall into a place. Just like a puzzle.
Surround yourself with people who will help you grow and better understand your gifts, talents and skills. You should always have someone who can pull out of you, what you can’t pull out of yourself! They will keep you on your toes and never allow you to rest on your laurels during your hard times.
As you can see, we’ve all started from a place of confusion. A place where we try to figure out who we are and what we want to do in life and that’s perfectly fine! This journey to Live Your Dreams or better to say Live Your Purpose is not an easy one and for many of us, it will take years to discover our own life purpose. Just allow it… and let the process of life shape you into who you need to become. Just keep going forward and know you have everything you need to make an impact in the world. Just start believing more in yourself. Your life is not defined by your relationship status, your job, your bank account or anything that you have or have done in the past. Don’t let the process break you but let it remake you. Do not ever choose a permanent solution for a temporary problem, because there is always another day and another way. Just rise above your pain and know that deep inside of you the real you is waiting to break through.

Without exposing yourself to new things, you can never truly know what you like or what you’re good at. God will present your talents and skills sometimes and it’s up to you to develop them. Other times, you’ll need to explore. Break those routines and break free of the cycle you’ve locked yourself into. It’s time to EXPLORE. Get out there and try all of the different things that you’ve always wanted to try! On your self-discovery journey don’t forget to turn back in time and try to look deep down yourself and think about your childhood; what always brought a smile to your face, what did you like doing when you were a kid, long before you have been influenced by your environment. Your inner child holds all the answers that you need to all those things that excited you and kept you alive.
Whatever you decide to do, stay consistent and stop comparing yourself to successful people because you are comparing yourself to those who have worked very hard at perfecting his/her craft. All you need to do is to start somewhere, anywhere. It is important to have an idea of where you’re going but don’t spend your entire time trying to think of every situation that might arise on your journey. Many of us use planning as a way to delay or avoid taking action. No matter how great your plans might be, they can and often will go off course because life is unpredictable. So you don’t need to have everything planned because overtime your vision will become clearer.
Just begin to make a good habit, because we are creatures of habit. We do the same things day in and day out without even realising it. Some habits help us, while other will wear us down over time. That’s why it is important to take a look at your habits objectively. Make self- development into a habit that you don’t intend to break, just like brushing your teeth and overtime it will become an important part of your life.
We live in amazing times. Take advantage of what the world has given us: the power of the internet – do your research on areas that interest you. I learned graphic design programs through the internet. My beginning was full of sleepless nights, watching tutorials, going on different forums to find the information on how to use programs such as Photoshop. Everything is there …but the question is are you willing to put it in the work ?
If you want to do something you will find a way, if you don’t you will find an excuse.
Loved this! Thank you so much for sharing Paula. I have a vague idea what I may do. It’s a very competitive field which puts me off a bit but maybe through baby steps all will become clear. Your article has inpired me. 🙂
